welcome to my hobby log.
this is where i ramble about my hobbies that aren't drawing or thrifting related. you can find nail art, beadwork, and my very humble attempts at garage kits here. my creative interests can be varied but i don't have a lot of time to work on them, so my skill may be lacking but at least i have fun!
a short ramble and a pic incoming later about my Milky blythe...
oops long time no update. i made a decoden frame when i was bored and home alone. it's currently chilling in my new office!
Ally was kind enough to share some of her deco wisdom with me after my last post...I finally got some time on Saturday to stop by the hardware store and pick up some silicon to try it out! And it worked out FAR better than the premade stuff ^_^ I'm super excited to decorate more things. I even bought a plain LED compact to stick cute charms on because I am annoying and extra like that.
I really want to buy more charms but I have decided on using up what I have now before I do so. The temptation is so great...but I'm really trying my best not to go nuts. The next theme I plan on basing a phone case around is elegant gothic lolita, so it's going to be black and white, with lacing details and some roses!!
i made some hairclips last night because i am a procrastinator and should have been working on something else!! i used to have these really cutesy hairclips as a kid that had my name on them. my mom got them for me when she went on a trip back home and i loved them so much!!!! totally kawaii. but they did not last throughout the years and eventually the charms fell off because they were just cheap little things. so i decided to try and make something similar....and they turned out....okay...
the letters are crooked and its actually driving me nuts but thats what i get for never planning things out lmao! i think i will make some new ones and see if will like them more. currently waiting on some black and dark colored cabochons and beads to arrive in the mail first, though because 90% of the time i wear black so i'd like to have clips that will match my lame fits! :^)
my car was in the shop on the first, so i had a day off! i was going to play ff16 all day, but i decided to be a little productive with my other hobbies. i decided to make a charm for my sister! she told me she wanted a phone charm to match her case (blue butterflies.) luckily, i had a few different types of butterfly beads at my disposal. i was also trying to sort through all my beads and take photos for the bead inventory that i would like to get done eventually, but i was so overwhelmed. i also need to buy more boxes for my beads because the ones i ordered filled up quickly!
i was feeling brave and decided to try making a phone case with decoden whip. it turned out okay. im treating it as practice because i want to use the charms my nonnie gifted me for my birthday...but i refuse to have them on an ugly case LOL. the whip i used dried pretty stiff (which i don't like) so i'm going to see if i can make my own. i really want to do a pastry themed case. i even bought brown bears and rabbit cabochons to match. i'm thinking of adding cute biscuits and stuff.
i will go in with a much more solid plan, because i totally just winged it with this one!! it was supposed to be candy themed. there are little gummy bears in it. i meant to use a large gummy bear phonegrip to make it all come together but i wussed out at the last second...i was worried i was going to mess it up! i hate not immediately being good at things i try T_T
sunday i wanted to take a small chunk of time to do something fun and creative that wasn't drawing, so i finally decided to make a phone charm! it was quite relaxing, and i had a lot of fun digging through my beads and charms trying to decide on a theme. unsurprisingly i went with pink and a cross (~ ̄▽ ̄)~
it turned out very cute! i happened to drop it before securing it (of course...) and had to restart at one point lol. i'm planning on making a couple of charms for my sister and my friend, but i think i will go with a keychain or purse charm next!
it's been like 10 years since i even thought about this hobby. admittedly, i havent gotten more supplies...i was a little disheartened after finding out that the other kits i had purchased were fake!! T_T but randomly scrolling on twitter like a month ago, i came across someone posting pictures of their Dima model that just arrived. and you know..i just had to impulsively buy it on the spot. i often complain to my sister that all the dimitri merch tends to be student!mitri...and while i like him, ofc i love feral!mitri more. his timeskip design is so handsome LOL i love his armor and long hair and eyepatch so much...dlkmfksks
ANYWAYS, this is an unofficial fanworks model. i have to look up witch patreon the print file came from but i bought him off of a printshops ebay so i didnt have to worry about buying a 3D printer or finding a local place to do it. it took about 3 weeks to arrive, i guess because of the time it took to print and also, the seller sanded him and everything for me, so all that's left to do is paint!
initially, i was going to commission a JP figure kit painter to do it for me but the quoted price was like $2k usd. and like. i know i have spending problems but even i was like no way! T_T then, i looked at western painters and the good ones were booked up, so all that was left were hobbyists that did amateur-ish jobs (no offense... obv i cant do it either lmfao) soo i was like, why pay someone hundreds to do an OK job when i can do it myself for free...
but i'm really scared of messing him up so i will practice on the bootlegs that are rotting away in my closet! maybe soon i'll start practicing. hopefully i'll remember to take pictures of my progress
i spent the afternoon sculpting and designing a set of gel nails! i went with a nude polish and some beautiful nail stickers i received from my beloved 'non.
after watching a few videos on the GK hobby...i have realized that i severely underestimated what i will need for this hobby !!!! so before i can even get to the fun stuff i have to put together and order a list of materials and tools :c so what's on my shopping list?
this will take me a while to gather (┬┬﹏┬┬)
finally bit the bullet and ordered two garage kits. i've been dying to try this for years, plus some of the most interesting figures (to me) are garage kits anyways so it was just a matter of time..
i ordered the bloodborne hunter bust (specifically marked EASY for beginners.) i chose it because my hunter figma is a tiny manlet next to my eileen the crow, so i wanted a piece that will show off more details and i am 1000% too cheap to order a Prime figure/statue (those easily cost like $2k USD so no thanks...)
i plan on making him look a lil more stinky and crusty than the demo kit. add some grit and blood splatter details to his weapon, glove, and bracer. i'm a little nervous about painting honestly, because even in all the art classes i've taken..painting was never my strong suit. but practice makes perfect! or so they say.
i ordered this asuka gothic lolita gk. the rei was sold out but i will get her too when she is available. i really think these are so cute, plus you can never have enough EGL inspired figures. i am thinking of doing white/black for the outfit or maybe even white/pink. im definitely not going to paint her hair orange though bc im a jerk and believe in dark or white hair supremacy. i'll probably also paint rei with a different hair color as well. so these are just gonna end up as oc paints i think lmao.
i ordered some putty and some paint brushes but i still need to get an airbrush thingy, some sanding paper, and the actual paints and primer. i have to do more research into what exactly i need but i will probably save that for a day when i'm feeling more focused and energetic. really hoping that when these kits arrive, that i actually do something with them and not have them rotting in my closet...
